A Word on Conscience

Hello!

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, your Lightning Noter is out of the office. But here's one of my favorite Dr. King lines from his 1968 speech, “A Proper Sense of Priorities:”

On some positions cowardice asks the question, is it safe?

Expediency asks the question, is it politic?

Vanity asks the question, is it popular?

But conscience asks the question, is it right?

And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but [they] must take it because conscience tells [them] it is right.

I’ll see you early and bright Jan 22,

Caitie
Your Noter-in-Chief
