An Underrated Way to Change the World

Think about the last time you were with someone who was toxic to be around.

Maybe he was negative, cynical, gossipy.

What kind of an impact did that have on you?

If you're like me, it would be a pretty rotten one. I might start to get more negative, cynical, gossipy.

Now, think about the last time you were with someone who was terrific to be around. Maybe she was kind, attentive, full of big, generous warmth.

What kind of an impact did that have on you?

For me, it would be a pretty excellent one. I might start to be more kind, attentive, warm.

One of the most underrated ways we can make an impact is with the quality of energy we bring into the room with us. It can't help but touch and move people, as we have been touched and moved by their energy.

I'm not saying we should fake positivity or pretend we're happy when we're not. That can be plenty toxic to be around in its own right.

But I do think we are called to be good stewards of our energy. To stoke it with good people and good reading, to replenish it with rest and downtime, to give it what it needs to be rich and full.

And when we attend to this, when we walk into a room with our energy well-nourished, we can change the piece of the world we touch at that moment.
